Ralph Elliott enlisted in the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. A on January 14, 1864 in Bryan County. In February with the creation of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry, he was transferred to Co. K of the 7th.

Pvt. Elliott was detailed on the Signal Corps in Savannah by order of Gnl. Mercer. Next he was detailed to Genesis Point in October of 1864. Elliott and others of the Signal Corps were ordered to report to Charleston's Signal Corps office January 31, 1865.

Elliott also traveled quite a bit as seen on an expense document; Richmond, Petersburg, Wilmington, Charlotte, Charleston and Savannah. His total expences was $85.50.
