J.G. Hunter enlisted April 3, 1862 in Bryan County with J.L. McAllister. Pvt. Hunter served in Co. A of the Hardwick Mounted Rifles until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. K, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Records show that Pvt. J.G. Hunter was present on roll calls through October '64.
