William Middleton enlisted September 10, 1863 in Bryan County. He served in Co. A, Hardwick Mounted Rifles until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. K, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Middleton received a furlough in April '64. On the May/August roll he was listed as sick and in September he received a sick furlough to Georgia.

On April 10, 1865 Pvt. William Middleton was captured at Cooper River, S.C.

Age 43; eyes, brown; hair, dark; complexion, dark; height, 5 feet 8 inches.
