Mathew Mikel enlisted May 16, 1863 in Bryan County. He was with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. K, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Mikel transferred from Co. K to Co. E of the 7th on May 1, '64.
During the Battle of Trevillian Station, Pvt. Mathew Mikel was killed in battle on June 11, 1864.
