Edward H. Hart served in the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry as Assistant Surgeon until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Edward Hart continued as an Assistant Surgeon, this time as Regimental, serving hospitals in Savannah, Dinwiddie County, Va., and Petersburg, Va. Ed Hart was hospitalized June 7, 1864 with dysenteria and returned to duty June 20th.

On April 9, 1865, Edward H. Hart surrendered at Appomattox and was paroled.
